NOTES:

Good music are rarely heard. So before someone else get wind of the idea, I want to do the honor of sharing José Maceda’s albums — a well-kept secret from people who GENUINELY appreciates this form of music and serious music researchers alike.

Filipino ethnomusicologist José Maceda had been creating remarkable compositions and recordings for 50 years. Gongs and Bamboos, released in 2001 by Tzadik, is an ensemble catalog featuring gongs, voices and bamboos, recorded live in an open air temple in the Philippines. The tracks on this album are divided into 3 pieces: 1. Pagsamba (1968), 2. Suling-Suling (1985), and 3. Colors Without Rhythm (1999).
