NOTES:

When FTR moved to the island of Siargao, Philippines, to reconnect with his archipelago, DATU was then conceived in a hut across three days, utilizing just a barebones studio setup with the beach right outside.

DATU 2 is Free The Robot’s second installment of his tribute project to his Filipino roots. Known as one of the pioneering artists to come out of LA’s beat movement, this veteran member of L.A.’s Low End Theory collective continues his unique signature sound that hints at jazz, psych, electronic, and hip hop, while incorporating samples sourced from Filipino albums with organic percussion instruments and chirping nature noises—complimenting the indigenous sound with programmed beats.
