NOTE:
Born to an African-American mother and Filipino father, Joe Bataan is a Filipino-African American Latin Soul musician from New York. Raised in Spanish Harlem and Puerto Rican culture, Bataan pioneered Latin music through the 60’s and 70’s. I decided to put this album here because it is the closest record that identifies his heritage.
Bataan named the album ”Afro- Filipino” saying there weren’t many people coming out publicly as Filipinos back then and thought he could have been one of the first to openly declare it. (Source: An Interview with Joe Bataan, PDF).
